In research it is found that a gene known as FTO is linked with the problem of obesity. The people who have one defective copy of the FTO gene has 30 percent more chance to be obese where as people who have two defective copy of FTO gene have increase there chances up to 70 percent. This research proved a strong connection between certain genes and obesity. These are the potential consequences of genome testing.
Now in recent research over 3000 children it is found that this gene directly affect the appetite. Jane Wardle, of University College London, and colleagues conducts test on the children to find out the affect of the FTO gene. They compare Children’s FTO gene status with questionnaires which contains various details of the children such as children’s eating habits etc.
The result of the research have confirm this fact that the children who have two defective copies of the gene have troubled in recognizing the feeling of fullness and more likely to keep on going. It is also observed that various factors such as genetic and environmental are involved in obesity. Researchers say that among white Europeans, almost one of six people carry two copies of the FTO gene.
